How to Grow a Yarn Shop
Who am I?
I am Pam Marshall and I am a fiberholic! I love all kinds of fiber! I like playing with it any way I can. I love to spin, weave, or knit with it everyday. Now I sell fiber for a living! How lucky am I?
Why I love what I do:
- I love a challenge.
- I hate having nothing to do.
- I am creative.
- I love people.
- I love to talk and learn from others.
- I am curious.
- I ask questions.
- I love making decisions and helping others do the same.
- I love to laugh and make others laugh with me.
I hate having to sit for a long time. It doesn’t matter what it is; riding in a car, stuck in traffic, watching my sons play sports. For a time that was all I did. My three boys were doing all different sports. Then I saw the light. I saw Moms knitting while watching their kids. Wow! A long story short: I decided to take beginning knitting lessons at my local yarn shop with a friend.
Why I Created Balls and Skeins
Balls and Skeins is the perfect marriage of my abilities, left brain Cornell graduate, past Apple manager, very detailed oriented person combined with my need to exercise my right brain side and my artistic nature. What could be better than opening a yarn shop? Know you know why I started Balls and Skeins. It’s just a couple of miles from my home in Sebastopol, CA. Raising three teenage boys isn’t easy. So I created a home away from home for the community and myself. I longed for a place to go, where women could be together, a place to get away for a couple of hours and get some therapy. Not real therapy, but the kind you get at Balls and Skeins. Color, fiber, crafting, talking, knitting and shopping therapy. It’s free! (Not if you buy anything). For all these reasons and many more I decided to create that special place which is now the home of Balls and Skeins. It’s my oasis and I invite everyone to come and experience all that it has to offer.
